ABOUT ME
Don Cox / Photographer
Don began photographing nature in the late sixties, using his father’s film cameras. Influenced by an older brother, he began collecting Canon equipment in the seventies and continued until the 2010's, when he switched to Sony mirrorless. Wandering through rural Western Pennsylvania during his “Wonder Years” with his father’s purloined camera, he never tired of capturing the beauty that manifested itself through his lens. After attending California University of PA and earning degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science, he worked in Process Control, where the travel involved fueled his desire to photograph nature. After a stint as a newspaper photographer, wedding photography and portraiture became his staple, though nature photography still provides a therapeutic escape from the tedium and hectic pace of weddings.
Don has been a field instructor, assisting on photo tours led by many famous nature photographers in Colorado, Wyoming, and Rhode Island. By photographing and learning from such photographers as Joe DiMaggio, JoAnne Kalish, Reed Hoffman, Lou Jones, Jay Dickman, and Jack Graham, both his inspiration and technique continues to be cultivated. He has also led his own workshops throughout the United States, as well as lectures and classroom instruction in digital photography. Don's publication credits include Nature Magazine (UK), as well as calendar credits. Corporate work includes prints for internal use.
Don has been a member of NANPA (North American Nature Photographers Association), NAPP (National Association of Photoshop Professionals), & various regional photography groups. He continues to travel throughout the United States, Europe, and Africa in pursuit of the perfect light.
